The Kerala Sahitya Akademi works as an autonomous institution for the promotion and development of Malayalam language and literature. The head office of the Academy is situated at Thrissur. Sri Perumpadavam Sreedharan is the current president of the Academy.
The Akademi organises book festivals, exhibitions for the common people and book lovers.
The Akademi publishes three journals Sahithyalokam, Sahithya Chakravalam and Malayalam Literary Survey (in English).
The Akademi awards Ezhuthachan Puraskaram given to noted literary figures.
