Thekkinkadu Maidan is situated in the middle of Thrissur town around the Vadakkumnathan Temple. The Thrissur round (Swaraj Round) is located around the Maidan which houses the temple.
The mighty festival Thrissur pooram is held in the Pooraparambu of Thekkinkadu Maidan.
The Thekkinkadu means Teak forest and was once a dense forest which was cleared by Sakthan Thampuran ruler of Cochin.
The maidhan houses Vadakkumnathan temple, Nehru Park, Water Authority office etc.
