Vimala College is a Roman Catholic college in Thrissur. Its also a first grade women’s College under the CMC Management is affiliated to the University of Calicut. It was established in 1967 after bifurcating St. Mary's College. The college is under the management of the Nirmala Province, Thrissur of the Congregation of Mother Carmel in the Roman Catholic Church.
The college comes under the religious jurisdiction of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Archdiocese of Thrissur. Vimala College was the only women's college in Kerala which offered exclusively graduate and post-graduate programmes. The college was presented the R Shankar Award in 2002 by the Government of Kerala for the best college in Kerala. It has been re-accredited with an A grade at 3.3 CGPA in a four point scale in 2008 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore.
The College is under the religious jurisdiction of the Catholic Archbishop of Thrissur. True to the ideals and heritage handed over to the Congregation by her founder, Blessed Chavara Kuriakose Elias, the College aims at the “pursuit of intellectual and professional excellence, the total formation of the girls as much for their own enrichment as for the service of society and the nation in the spirit of Christ”
The College offers 14 Undergraduate and 10 Postgraduate courses, and is a Centre for Research in English, Commerce and Physics. Realizing the advantages of value addition courses, the College has in the last five years offered several Add on and enrichment courses. Currently there are five UGC aided career oriented Add on and 15 other certificate courses offered by the College. The objective is to ensure that each outgoing student will have completed at least one certificate course along with the regular programme. This multi-faculty Institution has an enrolment of 2246 students, 118 faculty members and 36 non teaching staff. Dr. Sr. Lissy John Irimpan is the current Principal of the Institution.
