Thrissur Pooram 2016


Thrissur, 16 April, 2016: Thrissur Pooram, the biggest festival and tourism event in Kerala will be held on August 17-18, 2016. The Pooram which was in crisis due to the Puttingal Devi Temple tragedy at Kollam has got nod from government authorities for the smooth conduct. The Kerala high court has allowed the use of sound-emitting firecrackers after dusk during the Thrissur Pooram in its special sitting on the Vishu Day.

Sample fireworks of the Pooram 2016 was held on 15th of this month followed by the Chamayam exhibition of two sects, the Thiruvambadi and Paramekkavu on Saturday. The Poorapurappadu will be held at 12.20 pm on 17th, followed by Elanjithara mellam at 2 pm, Thekkottirakkam at 4.30 pm and Ezhunallippu at 10.30 pm.

The Pakalpooram will be held on 18th Monday which will be culminated by the Upacharam Chollal at 12 noon followed by Aarattu at 5.30 pm, Panchavadyam at 6 pm and Kodiyirakkam at 7 pm.

The constitutent temples of Thiruvambadi sect includes
Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple
Kanimangalam Sastha Temple
Laloor Bhagavathy Temple
Sree Karthyayani Temple at Ayyanthole
Nethilakkavu Baghavathy Temple

whereas the temples coming under Paramekkavu side are as follows.
Paramekkavu Bagavathi Temple
Chembukkavu Bhagavathy Temple
Panamukkumpally Sastha Temple
Choorakkottukavu Bhagavathy Temple
Pookattikkara - Karamukku Baghavathy Temple

Cherupoorams (Small Poorams) will be held at the constituent temples.
