Thrissur Pooram 2014 Date

Thrissur Pooram is the biggest of its kind in Kerala, mother of all Poorams. This festival is held at
Vadakkunnathan Temple, Thrissur in which two desams the western and eastern group represented by Paramekkavu Bhagavathi Temple and Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple participate in two day long festivities.

The participating temples include
Thiruvambadi section (Western Group )
Thiruvambadi Sri Krishna Temple
Kanimangalam Sastha Temple
Laloor Bhagavathy Temple
Sree Karthyayani Temple at Ayyanthole
Neithilakkavu Bhagavathy Temple

Paramekkavu section (Eastern Group)
Paramekkavu Bagavathi Temple
Chembukkavu Bhagavathy Temple
Panamukkumpally Sastha Temple
Choorakkottukavu Bhagavathy Temple
Pookkattikkara - Karamukku Baghavathy Temple



The most important event of the Thrissur pooram is the elephant festival which comprises of 'Kudamattam' where colourful umbrellas are exchanged atop of elephants.

Huge display of firework, display of Caparisons (nettipattam), Panchavadyam, Ilanjithramelam are part of this cultural feast.

The main pooram is held on the sixth day after flag hoisting. The Pooram starts with the ceremonial entrance of “Kanimangalam Sastha” pooram through the southern goupuram at 7 am on the Pooram day. Various dieties from the participating temples arrive at the venue on top of elephants. Different desams enter the temple ground through various locations and in the end both Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi groups array themselves, face to face in distant places to perform the Kudamattam.

An annual exhibition called Thrissur Pooram exhibition is also forms the part of the festival.

The Thrissur Pooram 2014 will be held on 9 May 2014.
